(‘Auf der Rückseite ebenso’ is German for ‘on the back side as well’ and the instruction at step 26 tells you to undo the steps 25 and 24 before proceeding with step 27.)
The head was a bit tricky when I folded it for the first time, and even though this is my third time folding this, I somehow can’t get this dog’s back quite right… you can see the square sticking out and the tail is not quite aligned as well, but maybe you guys can do better than me :)
I would also suggest using at least 20x20 cm paper - I simply used regular white A4 printer paper where I cut off a square with the size of 21x21 cm and the resulting dog is roughly 8 cm long and 7 cm high. If you don’t want to fold a Westie but a Scottish Terrier, just use all-black paper :)
aww, look how cute the dogs are! and omg, you’re absolutely right about the feet! I guess I was so excited about finishing this piece that I only looked at the lines and not at the instructions in the last step… whoops, but luckily I can still fix that.
And yeah, step 32 was tricky for me as well, especially because it seems like you have to eyeball the position of the folds since there is nothing that points to why the folds are like this. It also helped me to do the valley fold first, then kind of pinch the paper where the mountain fold needs to be and slip the top part of the pinch under the bottom part. But once it clicks in your head and you’re able to finish the piece, it is so worth it! I agree, the last step where you reveal the head is really awesome!
I’d really appreciate it if you could make another post where you show us the instructions for your other dog once you find it! Peterpaul Forcher apparently has published other origami dogs as well (I’ve seen diagrams for a German Shepherd Dog and I think a Pitbull?) I haven’t folded them yet, but maybe in the near future? Would you be interested in that?
I love folding almost anything just for relaxing after a long day, but I’m mostly interested in simple folds that I can memorize but still look nice. I used to fold a lot while studying and attending lectures or sitting in the train, where you can’t do anything complicated. As for more advanced stuff, I want to learn how to do wet folding, I got a book on that recently but got discouraged by all the stuff that I need for it.
Yes, it’s always confusing esp. if you don’t know whether you should align the fold or just eyeball it, but in this case I just confused valley and mountain folds and then later when I tried to finish the head, it didn’t work because the fold of step 32 was in the way, took me a minute to figure it out :D
