Do all mods have equal power over a community? Or is there a “supermod” / “owner” / “creator” who has more power than the others?

E.g. if I make someone else a mod of a community I created, can they do everything I can? Even remove me as a mod?

The user that created the community is treated differently in that they cannot be removed by the other moderators. I belive that user is referred to as the owner in the code. I haven’t looked into it yet, but I think there is a way to transfer ownership of the community. If not, then there should be.

As far as I know, that is really the only difference between the owner and the other community moderators.

      That’s right.

Also owners manage the list of moderators - mods can’t add or remove each other (although they can remove themselves).

]> I think Lemmy is supposed to have this, but I am not sure.

That was my experience as a community-founder on Lemm.ee – that I ‘owned’ the community, and that it was necessary for me to transfer ownership for that to change. Also, IIRC the owner has a couple more permissions on Lemmy than the other mods.

@klu9@piefed.social, I’d suggest you could test this out by creating another acct here, assign it mod status, then compare permissions.

If you’re the founder of a community that runs Lemmy, then you should be automatically senior mod. If you’re not sure, and as mentioned above, you could add a dummy mod acct.
