Could you make a community for soccer?

There’s already [email protected], which even though it’s technically about the domestic league, I suspect will end up being the home for discussion of soccer more generally.

Or you could go and find a soccer community elsewhere on Lemmy, like [email protected] or [email protected] (with a name that is obviously wrong in the Australian context, but is definitely about soccer and not what Australians would call football—or what Americans would call football).

Keep community suggestions coming! The idea of opening up community creation to everyone is on the table, it may be enabled in the future. In the meantime, we are happy to make them for you guys if they look like being good.

I was toying with making 2023FIFAWorldCup, the only reason I haven’t is I was meaning to check if it exists somewhere else and never did. It would certainly be appropriate for an Australian instance. Think that would be useful?

While we’re on the subject of communities, I plan on making a music one. Only, I want to avoid the word “music”. I don’t really want it to turn up in a global search for music. Same idea with “On the Telly” avoiding “television” and “TV”. It isn’t that I want the communities to be explicitly and exclusively for Australian shows/songs. I just want it to be a place we can talk about music without being drowned out by US content.

Current name musings: “Sounds of Then”, “AusTrax”, “Rage”. I’m leaning towards Rage, but I’m worried it’s a touch too Australian.

Not sure why football needs to be in Aussie zone it’s not specific to Australia.

Our top league the A league is probably comparable to EFL league 2, no footballer worth their salt aspires to play in Australia.
