…that can be split in half
Once.

My 3DS has it too!
And then one screen starts drifting and Nintendo won’t do shit about it except sell you another screen with the same drifting problem.
Hall effect screens when? XD
Nintendo patents lots of things, so I wouldn’t put too much importance behind this, personally.
You say that, and then you link concept art of wii u gamepad?
That’s actually 2015 patent that surfaced ahead of the Nintendo Switch announcement. It described an all-touch-screen handheld console with two analog sticks and shoulder buttons as the only controls.
That’s really cool tbh, I love crazy mockups like this
If you’re interested, I found the patent PDF
I’m ready for 3DSwitch
Absolutely. I took a break from my Switch recently while traveling, because my 3DS fits so nicely folded in a pocket.
Agree. Clamshell design is unbeatable for a portable system.
If they brought back the 3D screen for a next gen Switch I would unironically be so happy
I’m even more ready for an actual next gen console. Something that doesn’t look like it was released in 2006
Hmm… the device has 3 screens. (The third is visible when the device is closed)
I can’t imagine a reason to do this… other than to facilitate brining mobile games over.
…
There was a rumor way back that the switch was going to run Android. Obviously that didn’t happen. But it makes you wonder.
I mean, my switch has run Android and Ubuntu at various points (Ask me how!)
I think there are only two, if I’m reading the diagrams correctly.
A. This is kind of cool.
B. I very much do not want this for a switch successor. As bad as the switch ergonomics are, there’s no way this isn’t worse.
Funnily enough, I had a weird idea before for a dual screen hybrid console. As a handheld, it would be like a DS. To dock it, you can take the screens apart, dock the top screen, then use the bottom screen as the controller, like a Wii U. I thought this was a dumb idea and that Nintendo would never want to repeat the Wii U, but… Hey, who knows?
I don’t think the Wii U’s issue was that a controller was a screen; I think the Wii U’s issue was that everyone thought it was an add-on for the Wii and wondered why it cost more than the Wii itself did
Agreed, the biggest issue with the WiiU was the marketing
My issue with the Wii U was that it was almost, but not entirely, portable. For some games, you could play entirely on the tablet, without the TV even being on, as long as you stayed relatively close to the TV. The issue was that you would start getting lag spikes when you tried to push the range and not enough games supported playing entirely on the tablet.
I would not object to a console that is whole house portable (probably via LAN, like the PlayStation Portal). I almost never play outside of my house and when I do, it is always at a location where I can connect a box to the network, like a friend’s home or a vacation rental.
Oh look, it’s DS2.
New Nintendo DS
Death Stranding 2 isn’t even out on PS5 yet, and the original still isn’t on any Nintendo platforms
Battleship? Guess Who?
Nintendo Dual Switch
Whatever brings us closer to a Switch SP clamshell, or Switch Micro. Or they could just reissue the 3DS every 10 years and I’ll buy another.
