I thought for sure this had to have the saturation cranked up (very common when people post colorful birds), but the pic is straight from the Macauly Library and, if anything, underplays the fine details of the colors due to the image degradation.

I’ve tried all lowercase and as is capitalization for my username, and it doesn’t make a difference. It seems to recognize the Piefed instance, it just breaks down when I go to the step to enter my username.

If they are doing so because of a shitty employer, drawing attention to their real or perceived gender nonconformity could make things worse for them. You could also just be wrong and actually looking at a man that seems feminine to you; it’s very common for trans men to be assumed to be trans women if we’re not passing as men.

I recognize this is absolutely coming from a place of compassion and empathy, but the best thing to do with a stranger is take them at their word and be courteous. There are a ton of things that could be going on when someone introduces themself with a name that seems to contradict their gender presentation, and trans woman forced into it is only one of many possibilities.

I would bet the people fixating on how ‘cyclists break the law all the time!!’ are actually just completely numb to the way cars constantly break the law. I have to engage in what I call ‘defensive walking’ a lot of the time crossing the street or even just walking down the sidewalk, because of how little drivers pay attention to anything that isn’t another car.

Unfortunate follow up: the dev of Tesseract just announced today that he’s quitting and it’s not going to be supported any longer 😔 I imagine instances that already support it will continue doing so for a while, but unless there’s a fork it’ll probably eventually break.

While the Bush administration certainly had (very obviou$) reasons for trying to downplay it, I also remember at least some scientists at the time arguing that climate change was a better term because people are particularly stupid about the term global warming when it paradoxically results in some places having a greater number of and more extreme cold events.

Ex: every time some dumbfuck Republican brought a snowball into Congress to talk about how global warming is fake because look here’s snow!!

The only way this should be an issue is if you’re getting a prescription or other controlled substance (like cannabis or alcohol) delivered to you under a name that doesn’t match your ID. And even then it’s a ‘this is a pain in the ass and I may lose my order’ problem, not a ‘I am going to get fined or prosecuted’ problem.

Don’t widen it, add more public transit. You’re not going to need wider roads (like the fucking 101 needs to be any wider) if you give people accessible non-car options. And widening the road is a money pit anyway, it doesn’t solve traffic. “Just keep adding lanes” is magical thinking.
