I don’t understand the problem, You’ve got a perfectly well working product, just without the Internet access. If you don’t want to connect it to use the advanced features, just unplug it and use the mirror in the way you like.
This is mostly the reason I immediately dropped gimp for anything. For me personally, this feature missing and the backwards ui are a deal breaker.
There’s an external mod manager that I forgot the name of. They have mod packs that are Semi-Updated.
Some or maybe even most phones will survive, but there’s a reasonable chance of the device going up in flames. Older batteries are even more likely to catch fire, depending on the type.
