  • Genuine question - what happens to the workers who get replaced? I know in Western countries, we’d all be left jobless (leading to a crisis in capitalism). But even with this high a rate of replacement, it doesn’t seem like China’s going through an unemployment crisis or that the masses are resentful of the jobs they are losing. So something must be different. For a while I can imagine the workers fired from one plant can go to another, but given this has been a priority for the govt. for close to a decade at this point, there has to be something more substantial being done for the people. Are they in mass moving into the service sector? That cannot be sustainable solution. And I can’t imagine agriculture itself isn’t being automated either, if some are moving back to the villages. Others might move to higher-tier manufacturing that isn’t replaced as of yet…but none of these feel like the solution. I’m just reminded of the fact that machines cannot produce value, only human labor can, and am just left wondering what’s happening.

I mean, I can if you really want. But I don’t think he’s a good guy lol. Plus it’s over 11 mins long. Also, how he stated Point 4 is very different from how I framed it above.

Edit - Here’s the vid, but not on the OG channel so he doesn’t get the Twitter revenue.

    CW - Racism

He framed it as China becoming more “civilized” where people no longer piss on the street or spit at your feet, and public washrooms have toilet paper (his excuse for why he used to shit his pants all the time). Later on, he said today it’s like a Japanified version of China, referring to the people. He was also rude/negative to the couple of Chinese people who tried to talk to him while filming and framed them as scammers.

  • I’d rather not if I’m honest lol. It’s why I didn’t link the video or even gave the name of the dude.

  • Nice to meet another fello oldie chomsky-yes-honey

On YT, I dunno. I do agree that the dislike button was used to just silence people, which was their stated reason for getting rid of it. But at the same time, it was also used to figure out which videos were just scams or advocating for harmful stuff lol. Oftentimes, you would click on a video looking for a solution to a problem, see the dislikes and realize the video is probably peddling some bs. Now, you don’t have that as neatly - there’s still comments (but they can be removed, and most people don’t comment anyways).

But I agree, discourse on youtube is just ass. There isn’t any good solution.
