  • I was going to bury this lower in the thread but I think this deserves a top line reply.

she could literally just pay lip service the day of the election where it can do the least amount of damage when it comes to moderate voters and that would gain the support of people like me; but she won’t

So let’s make this perfectly clear for everyone else: this person would sacrifice the rights of women/people of color/lgbtq+ people, accelerate genocide in Gaza/Ukraine/elsewhere, and completely doom any action on climate change… because they want lip service on an issue they don’t actually care about. Wonder why that is?

  • One of our cats HATES when my wife isn’t wearing enough clothing. I can walk around fully nude no problems. My wife wears short shorts and he will get visibly upset and start attacking her until I come defend her. If she puts on pants he goes right back to normal. Doesn’t attack people and is generally pretty chill otherwise. Our cat has the political leanings of the Taliban apparently.

  • I’ll preface this by saying the 1%'s stock holdings are pretty much the last thing I’m worried about protecting. But it could be as simple as requiring your wealth to be under the limit when you file your taxes. Let’s say it’s a billion dollars (I would argue it should be much lower). If you end the year with 11 billion dollars in wealth, you owe the government 10 billion dollars. There are controls we can put in place to prevent stock manipulation, similar to the ones we have now. Just actually enforced.

  • This shift is because we need the GOP to vote for anything that gets passed. They will not vote for a pathway to citizenship. They will not vote to protect DACA recipients. They will not vote to do the things that actually need to be done, that Democrats have proposed. So the only thing leftover is enforcement measures, some of which are still needed.

Doing nothing is acceptable to the GOP and they have the votes to make that happen. We need to get rid of them, that’s the solution here.

  • People grow tired of fighting with such high stakes so in the long run you just wear them out

    This is true.

Sure, if Trump wins things will suck definitely but it’s not the end of the world. Ultimately biggest political parties serve various oligarchs so once Dems are inevitably back some years from now you’ll notice not much is changing for you personally.

This is where I vehemently disagree. Just because you’re not going to be one of the first ones they target doesn’t mean it’s no big deal. They’re talking about using our local police to round millions of people up and put them in camps, and you’re going to sit there and tell me it’s not the end of the world? Get the fuck out of here.

It’s okay to be tired. Fight anyway. That is what is required to maintain Democracy. Giving in to authoritarianism because it’s easier is a bitch move.
