  • This is a brainworm that has been very well cultivated here sadly (Finland) in people that have been knee deep in the conspiracy stuff provided by the alt-right for some time, far longer than covid stuff. They fully both believe that covid isn’t real and that the vaccine was some kind of mass death/crowd control thing. The local forums for basic everyday people are all this stuff if they ever mention covid, nothing else. There are no other covid things discussed anywhere.

This is a country where people on average never took covid seriously and this shit take got a lot of validity. It shows. The majority has fully forgotten covid ever existed and the only other people still talking about it are these “it’s not real” people. I tried to find a mask block or any single covid cautious take in my own language and there is none, there is only the 5g laser people now.

  • I remember where the discourse that started to erode solidarity started from. It was the bourge. Those first few scary months were humanity in display, but we weren’t allowed that for long.

It was media showing everyone how the rich kept skiing in Austria and brought the virus home for the poorer folks to catch and die from.

It was business owners and capitalist panicing about the line not going up when they noticed people find life good without all that consumption or travel.

It was a building of divides and eroding of solidarity.

It was “experts” chiming in on how “lockdowds will cause harm to kids” or other similar things. It was seeding distrust to common sense solutions, endless discussion and debate without action.

It was neoliberalism as an ideology.

  • Still remember a classmate who peed themselves in class because our horrible head master refused to let him go to the bathroom and he was very shy. This was decades ago now and we were small kids. But the main reason I still remember it is because it was such terrible abuse and shook me quite a bit. I mean our head teacher was a super toxic bully in all the possible ways and when I heard he had died I celebrated.

And of course the boy was bullied because of that by the unchecked bullies in our school do it definitely was not forgotten. Bullying was fully supported by teachers there which checks out considering what this country is like at its core.

I feel like people who say that have never experienced bullying or have forgotten how that works. It can be the smallest of things, it will never be forgotten.

  • Same thing has fully destroyed leftism in countries like Finland that really would have needed consistent theory and understanding of socialism to prevent things developing to where they have developed. I see the propping up of the Troskyist left and pushing out of the ML theory to some fringe position of “Stalinists” as one of, if not the most harmful, in ridding the world from class awareness and an ability to see a way out.

The entire point of socdem governance is to exist with capitalism and the troskyist talking points that frame communism as utopistic and out of reach have aided in cultivating our current “End of History” mindset. The way trotskyims became the only viable left option to even be considered is a very bourge project imo. And has been sadly way too successful.

But this is just my personal take from the surroundings and history I live in.
