  • The first thing you’ll learn when you start using Reddit is that karma matters.

To an extent, but not really that great of one. Once you’re past like… a hundred, you’re fine basically everywhere of note.

Lots of communities have a minimum.

Basically every community of note that I modded did. Kept out a lot of shitters. Sure some regular folks might’ve gotten hit in the crossfire but omelettes, eggs, and nothing better from the admin side to stop the previously mentioned shitters.

There are communities dedicated to building karma.

We’d ban people who used those ngl, cuz guess who else used those subs?

There are secret clubs for high karma earners.

They aren’t as interesting as you might think. Source: Was in several. Lot of similar names shooting the shit. Secret mod subs were like that too tbh.

  • Karma matters early on posting on reddit cuz many subreddits blocked negative karma posters via automod. Later it became more granular with subreddit specific karma. After several years there I had 6 digit karma spread across all my regular haunts which granted me a degree of freedom to get downvoted wherever cuz I had stockpiles to dip into.

    On lemmy that doesn’t apply.

  • “Sa”, as previously noted, is not an accepted Scrabble word. Abbreviations are not acceptable in Scrabble. Foreign words aren’t accepted in Scrabble so “Ist” and, “Sa” would be out there as well as it appears we’re playing English Scrabble. “Ra” is also not accepted in Scrabble as proper names (like, “Thor” for another example.) are not accepted.

More importantly, words need to connect to an existing word so, “ra”, and, “ist” by themselves wouldn’t be accepted on those grounds, hence the determination that the person played them on their turn and is actively tying to figure out which letter they should use for the middle bit to finish the single word on a single line they can play on their turn.

And yes, we are overthinking a political comic ITT.

  • Because the dudes playing Football are the peak of talent and skill for it, and I don’t like getting concussions. The ones playing Minecraft et. al. are largely random dipshits who are good at being entertaining, not skillful at the game itself. Also I don’t get concussions from playing Fortnite, just brainrot.

This line of conversation was discussing it as though it was an actual game. Maybe I misunderstood the point you were trying to make in regards to “ra”, and, “ist”, in which case my b. To my knowledge there’s no rule stopping one from laying letters down however they want in one line so long as it forms a word at the end of them doing so. One could put down “t”, then “s”, then, “i”, or alternate “r”, then “t”, etc. as they’re laying down their word.

Not sure what in my comment made you think I wasn’t discussing rules and actual gameplay but if you could elaborate on that for my own future reference, I’d appreciate it.

  • Really, if the Dems brought in someone who was like… 50 (and probably not Newsom owing to prolonged hateboner for Cali) they’d gain 10 points in the polls immediately. Whether true or not, the narrative that Biden is old and doddering is there and that debate performance did nothing to dissuade it.
