It is hard to imagine any kind of credible “robust debate” about life in space from within the “Scientific Community” considering we are now facing the potential (probable?) reality that they have ‘discovered’ a new galaxy (or what ever) that “is too big to exist”.
We don’t even understand what is going in in our oceans (and are finding new species in them all the time) while astromers and physicists are talking about what exists and is happening tens of billions of light years away and can’t be explained by our current understanding of physics.
Having said that, I was explaining to my SIL that you cannot create energy - it is against the rules of physics. He responded with “that is physics as you know it”. I started to dismiss that statement but then had to challenge myself.
