When I used to go onsite, for me home was an hour to an hour and half each way, and most of my coworkers had a 45 mins drive home in traffic. I suspect that’s why most do it. It’s your only chance for solitude.

For Windows it absolutely is in order of listing however. Typical behaviour is no reply after a second against the primary DNS results in it moving down the list.
Redundancy aside, this is more important when you span multiple datacenters and always want lookups going to the completely local or most local DC available.
TIL about the Linux/BSD not having preference though. Good to know.
We call them ceasers
We typically buy the clam juice premixed with tomato juice, Clamato juice.
Money. Costs more to build and costs more to maintain. I assume at the time many of them were built the land was cheap enough to not come close to offsetting it.
Me too, over 1400 hours. I use a lot of mods. I take a break for a year or more at a time and then get hooked again. I’m trying to wait for the NPC update until I do again
Homer: (wakes up from a daydream about “the land of chocolate”). “What? Huh? Oh, uh we were talking about chocolate?” – Boss: “That was ten minutes ago!”
Lol I heard this one with the German accent and everything. I may have watched too much simpsons growing up
For me it’s because I’m hungry AF and just don’t want to wait for them to fix it. Not being that picky helps.
Yeah but what about a not random one but a decent one that puts out good stuff consistently?
The majority of YouTube is trash and it takes time to cultivate something decent. Just like Lemmy
Same with me but on Connect. I can still use All and discover new stuff easily by being ruthless with blocking. I have several hundred blocked communities and use the keyword filters for major us politicians and such.
If there is someone who posts US politics in a general sub I just block the user.
I know I’m throwing some good out with bad but thems the breaks.
High frequency trading. It’s trading measured in milliseconds (or less, nanoseconds now matter) where they are just skimming off everyone else.
It’s not accessible to anyone else except a extremely well financed and entrenched few.
Seconding Connect for filters, it was early to the game on this. I use keyword filters like ‘elon’ and ‘trump’ as well as instance filters and it’s been great for curating a non rage inducing Lemmy experience.
No, they don’t have as much leverage as you think they might and trying to regulate like this would cause all kinds of systemic issues that could cause far more economic damage then good. There is already halt protections to prohibit dumping where there is not enough interested buyers to handle a selloff for instance.
This would be about restricting institutional liquidity which is just overall a bad idea for the health of the market and retail investors as a whole.
You want to look to fix something, look at fixing HFTs first. They are cancer that affects every market participant.
What always gets me is how do you know how much to bribe people for? Did you have to ask around? Do they actually tell you?
I just picture me slipping a border guard a fiver and being so insulted he arrests me lol
Lol it’s not fake its literally a still of Willem Dafoe from the movie “The Lighthouse”.
Nice, I never thought of Leon as a costume. Will definitely have this as a option this year
Title is wrong they have to pay $950m
I didn’t realize Dark Reader was laggy or known to be laggy but it makes sense. It doesn’t matter in any case, you’d have to pry it from my cold dead eyes
Ahh yeah I see what you mean. Good point, I also find it uncomfortable, but its at the cost of letting your food cool off
