Oh, believe me I used to wear coveralls on a ship all day with nothing but a t-shirt and underwear underneath. Some freaks would wear gym shorts underneath, which was actually a good idea if you work with a lot of grease and oil, as my legs broke out a few times from it (laundry services sucked).
For me, it’s because I have weirdly specific ideas of how clothes should be used. Overalls are workwear, worn over all of your regular clothes to keep them clean and undamaged while working in factories and fields (or whatever), much like how coveralls, aka “jumpsuits,” are supposed to cover all of your regular clothes for the same purpose. I think they’re dirty-work clothes that should be relegated to that. However, I keep that shit to myself because no one else cares and I try to only apply it to my own fashion choices (I own several sets of coveralls that I use for painting and other dirty work, but would never wear them out in public).
