I believed in all the free market bullshit, thought that the problems in my country are because we are not as developed a society as the west and that we need to do more things like them, believed that austerity measures were a necessary evil because “le economy” naturally requires harder times when it’s not going well.

The real problems are a combination of many things, some of which are heavy imperialist exploitation of my country, uneven growth of capitalism, monopolies taking over local production, and the usual good old capitalism that is true for every capitalist regime.

Even this couldn’t be further from the truth. They had no problem whatsoever allying with the fucking Nazis to take down their common enemy, the communists. Because the communists, unlike the fascists, pose a real threat to their rotting system based on exploitation, if left unhindered it would mean an end to their glorious days of being the modern slave owners. But the fascists only posed a geopolitical threat, their ideology goes along just fine with capitalism, that’s why we still see Nazis get standing ovations to this day while communists are being witch hunted.

I like it quite a bit. Sure, it lacks the strong anticapitalist message you want to see but it’s still a pretty good series that shows how new technologies can turn into dystopia because of the way capitalism utilizes them.

Over time that would probably become too dangerous even for “union loving” parts of the government to allow. People getting organized in masses and becoming more class conscious can serve as a platform for more serious movements and revolutionary action to take place. People in the US are worlds away from being class conscious, but unionizing can only improve that.
