tbh I like W10, I grew up with 98 but the slight UI modifications of 10 (like the expanded and customizable start menu) felt necessary to me.
W11 however… that’s a pile of shit as it is very clear it aims to be pretty to casual users more than it aims to be useful and streamlined.
To be honest according to your own data that doesn’t seem good for Lemmy. Two huge instances who make up almost 30% of all Lemmy users aren’t federated anymore, it seems to me it’s a pretty big deal for Lemmy.

to be honest YouTube has great content because of the video length allowed. You can find all sorts of tutorials on pretty much anything. Instagram and TikTok, on the other hand, fit your description much better.

I cambiamenti dell’app e l’appiattimento delle community vanno proprio in quella direzione. Reddit sta cercando di rendere l’app sempre più simile a quella di un social tradizionale e sempre più lontana da ciò che reddit è sempre stato proprio per attirare quel tipo di pubblico. Il sito desktop non ha nessuna rilevanza, tanto lo sappiamo tutti che il mainstream si cattura con le app - ed ecco perché avevano bisogno di spazzare via quelle di terze parti.

Non “concorrenza”. Nemmeno i capoccia di reddit possono ambire a qualcosa di così esagerato. Ma vogliono catturare quel pubblico per portarlo anche su reddit. Idealmente vorrebbero che tutti quelli che scrollano TikTok dopo un po’ aprano anche l’app di reddit per vedere cosa si dice e partecipare. E magari - per alcuni - apprezzare il fatto che su reddit puoi scegliere una tua tipologia di video da guardare (in base al sub in cui sei) senza sottostare al 100% all’algoritmo che decide cosa devi vedere.

credo che dell’appiattimento delle community a reddit freghi meno di zero. Con la IPO dovranno aumentare a dismisura i revenue da ads e questo potranno farlo andando ad attirare il pubblico mainstream, quello su Instagram e TikTok, non hanno alcun interesse a coltivare il valore aggiunto di community per pochi, anzi.
