My best friend’s dad recently passed. They got his DD214 and were going to memorialize his silver star and purple heart.

Turns out purple heart was real, silver star was not. Dude was telling stories, giving presentations, stealing valor for 40 fucking years.

At a minimum, please put that in a high yield savings account. A quick search shows there are still some between 4-5%. Fairly easy to setup and not too bad to get out of, if you need to. (That’s free $30-40 a month)

My complaint is ENTIRELY on its Bluetooth functionality. It does not play well with any phone and requires constant reinstalls of the app/connection whenever I get a new phone or aid, or the app gets updated.

It will show as connected but then not actually be connected for the purposes of audio delivery. Forget connecting to anything you can’t install the app to either.

I’m almost 50, and this hits hard. So many things from my youth have blended together. Almost nothing from before I was 10 now.

That is one thing I do like about the phone in my pocket. I have a constant stream of photos now, of mine and my family’s life. It’s not just a random photo of a birthday here or there that survives, but an almost living journal.

I think you might be conflating with this story.

The F-14 was testing the missile launch system, and the engineers failed to consider all the factors of the test missile and the system, causing it to not successfully clear the aircraft on launch, damaging the aircraft. Not really shooting itself down, or a failure of the F-14 design.
