China has historically relied on US imports for its food security. A lot of their foreign policy over the past 30 years has had to do with importing food while exporting manufactured goods back to the US (to put it extremely simply).

The biggest reason for the shift now is that Russia can (has to?) offer grain at a lower price with the sanctions going on, which is “free real estate” for China.

It’s not that the can or are cancelling all imports of grain, just imports from the US.

At the age of 25 you haven’t fucked up. You still have plenty of opportunity to change your destiny and surround yourself with wiser people.

Once you get a few years older it becomes more reasonable to start asking more of your social circle, but if they’re too incurious they wont be responsive to that. If you’re on this site you’re familiar with the concept of 5-year planning, it’s totally doable socially too.

What’s nice about Italki is you can easily change it up. Might be best to start there with a few different people till you find someone you click with.

Also I’ve taken a lot of language tutoring online, and if you have a reasonable audio/video setup (I work from home so it was already there for me) you’re good to go.

Could be good to start out with some guy in LA who learned your target language until you get conversational, and then switch to native speaking teacher(s) to build your skills from there.
