Well, I took another look, and I don’t think neovim is for me. I looked at installing one of the dependencies, and the dependency had dependencies, and I don’t know how to install any of it. Oh well!
The spreadsheet I use is really easy. I can do it on my phone while I’m traveling, too.
Right now I have all of my soaps, blades, etc. in a Google Sheets. I can copy/paste, or export to whatever they allow. Maybe I’ll tinker with it later.
Oh this is great. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I truly hope there are some confused idiots when it switches over, although they’ll probably believe everything and not recognize that it’s satire.
I took a quick look at sotd.nvim and I might be deterred by the json formatting. Json is great and everything, but that would be pretty tedious for me!
Is there a json tool where you can copy in a spreadsheet and it’ll try and format it for you?

The Flying Wing is actually my favorite GEM at the moment. It’s the mildest one I own, except maybe the Damaskeene.
Have you smelled Puros? It’s definitely a good combo. I ended up throwing or giving away my Puros soap because it was garbage, but the aftershave isn’t bad and smells great.
Really? That’s an odd thing for them to change, but what do I know.
I didn’t see any major bugs, and I confirmed with our auto-bot developer that that software will work with the new version, so cross your fingers.

RE: soap is soap - there are lots of different types of soap. Each type of fat has differing amounts of loric acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, etc. Lard makes a soap that’s a good firmness (not too soft, not too hard), not very cleansing (so it won’t dry your skin out, but also won’t do much hard cleaning), very conditioning, not very bubbly, but very creamy. Other fats/oils yield much different results. Soaps with a lot of coconut oil are very cleansing, so they’ll dry your skin out. Your soap sounds like it could be used daily without any problems.
So, I disagree that soap is soap. Soap that’s made specifically for shaving typically has a lot of added stearic acid, because no natural fats have enough natural stearic acid to produce a really stable lather that won’t dissipate during the shave. Most use a lot of beef tallow, but there are also a lot of vegan options.
If it’s the best soap you’ve ever used, that would negate the claim that soap is soap. I’m happy you’ve found something you like.
There are always people in all hobbies that think it’s their way or the highway (no offense, but your comments have that tone to them).
I try to avoid that and just share what I enjoy.
One of the biggest things I hear is “cartridges cause irritation and DE razors don’t!”. That is 100% false and I disagree with it. Still, I love using DE razors and would recommend them to anyone interested in “enjoying” shaving.

I use artisan shave soap because they work extremely well and smell awesome. Commercial soap also works well, but there isn’t as much variety in the smell department. I have a handful of brushes and I use whichever one I feel like on a given day. They all offer something unique.
I use aftershave for the same reason you mentioned. Aloe sounds like it’d be sticky and unpleasant for my skin type.
What kind of problems did you experience? Do you remember what kind of razor you tried?
In the enthusiast community, Leaf is commonly used by head shavers, but Double Edge, Single Edge, Straight Edge, etc. are all much much more common for face shavers. There’s far more variety which makes it “fun”.
I agree. Some people even get so caught up in Wetshaving that they run a Lemmy instance dedicated to it.

I finished off my allMan balm (although I probably have a backup somewhere) which freed up the old Mammoth bottle with a pump. Goodfellow Face Lotion (a Target exclusive) has been treating me really well lately, so I transferred some into the pump bottle.
The lotion is very thick (similar to Declaration Grooming Liniment (but not as greasy)). I had trouble priming the pump, but now that it’s primed I don’t think I’ll have any problems.
The APR soap base has always treated me well. I just load the dickens out of it and work it until it’s not too puffy. I bet if I loaded a little drier it would be easier to work with.
The 90’s is a decade and went from January 1st, 1990 to December 31st 1999.
Century’s are off by 1 year because there’s no year “0”, so every Century starts with “1”. 1st century is 1-100, then 101-200, 201-300, 301-400, etc.
That’s also why we’re in the 21st century right now, instead of the 20th century, despite the years starting with 20__.

I’m back home now so I could have picked a different soap to use, but this one was nearby and I’ve been enjoying it for the past 5 days so decided to give it another go.

Just to be pedantic, Helen Viola Jackson died before the 21st century. The 21st century started on January 1st, 2021 2001. Helen died on December 16th, 2020 2000.
Close enough, though.
