Good morning Dads.
What’s on your mind this weekend? Do you have any plans, with or without the kids? Have you finally admitted defeat and decided that you do in fact have to get someone in to clean the oven? Talk about it all, right here.
Won’t lie guys. I love my kids to the end of the world…but I’ve been child-free for 23 hours now and it’s been the best 23 hours I’ve had in a long time. I got a new tattoo, I’ve had a late-night of gaming and I even slept in my own bed (something I haven’t done in over a year - thanks Oscar). It’s nearly 9am and I haven’t left said bed. I’m just reading and forgetting about the world.
The fun will stop eventually. The family is due back (hopefully) in the late afternoon on Sunday, but right now? Oh right now I’m living my best life.
I am similarly child-free this weekend, for maybe only the second time since my son was born. I’ve dusted off the PS5 and am playing the new Final Fantasy, which I’m really impressed by.
Without wishing to sound hyperbolic…this weekend has been incredible. Five plus years since I had a night off from the responsibility of parenthood, and I’ve missed this… freedom so much.
I’m excited to see them and give them a hug when they return tomorrow, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t loved every minute of being on my own.
It’s such a rare thing for me. 5 years!
Pretty busy weekend so far.
Techniquest, Swimming Lessons, trip to the beach.
Nothing planned for this afternoon though…. Maybe some gardening (the little boy likes to help with the sweeping)
Just putting him down for a nap so I’ve got about 50 min of free time which I should spend productivity but will probably flop down on the sofa!
…what’s Techniquest?
It’s a science activity centre - lots of hands on exhibits, it’s great for a wide age range of kids (and let’s be honest… adults too!)
My boy is under 3 and loves it and has been talking about “the robot arm” all weekend.
They’ve got a little 1.5 min video that shows some of the exhibits https://www.techniquest.org/discover/whats-inside/
Also - I did indeed flop onto the sofa and spent that precious nap time playing Zelda (it was glorious)
Unless I’m absolutely exhausted, whenever I get my little one down for a nap I’ll fill the time with something for me, be it a game, a book, or a TV show. No judgement here, you do what you need to do.
