    Mar 28, 2024 - Everything but the…

Excellent shave today using u/grindermonk’s Kitchen Sink. Highlander and Confluence both worked really well with it.

    Rating: 4.5/5

    AG 1889

    • Brush: Boti Motherlode knot in laminated wooden handle, 30 mm
    • Razor: Dovo 41 Inox
    • Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. AG 1889
    • Aftershave: Chicago Grooming Co. AG 1889
    • Fragrance: Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540

Another upsettingly upsetless match yesterday. I guess the seed calculation was really on point 😅 A pattern emerged again where the first half of the votes lean more progressive, pro-underdog (in this match until 14:00 GMT) only to be wiped out by a reactionary pro-establishment wave waking up (That’s around 06:00 CST. I see you, mid-westerners.)

I really enjoyed my travel razor yesterday, so I reused it today. AG 1889 is my first duck fat soap from CGC, and I’m impressed. Even in this first try, I got glistening slick lather without issues.

The scent is intriguing; right off the bat, it reminded me of warm, spicy Baccarat Rouge behind a fresher, spicy, dominant first wave. I have since been made fun of on the discord for that comparison (doubtless deservedly, my wife reacts similarly when I talk about scents), but my nose, my combo 😊

Unfortunately, I get a distinct frag tingling from the soap. Not much, but it’s definitely there. I’ll give the soap another chance, but this one might need to move on.

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts “Santa Noir” w/Maggard 28mm SHD Badger
    • Razor: Fatip Classic Testina Gentile
    • Blade: Bolzano Superinox (German) (1)
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Voices - Soap
    • Post Shave: Barrister & Mann - Lyssa - Aftershave

Oops. I thought the final matchup was today. Can you guess who I might use tomorrow?

Anything can change, of course, but it would be fun to see one last “upset”.

    • Brush: Brad Sears Arley 26mm Super Badger

    • Razor: Thiers Issard Le Grelot 6/8 Full Hollow

    • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Marilyn - Soap

    • Toner: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner

    • Aftershave: Barrister and Mann - Marilyn - Aftershave

    • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Marilyn - Eau de Toilette

    • Talc: Yardley Gold

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was my first time using the Marilyn trifecta, and my first time using the soap from a tub instead of a sample. I did not care for this scent at first, but it really grows on you. The EdT has definition in the top notes that aren’t there in the soap or AS, and the scent lingers like whiffs of a romantic night the morning after.
