^^ And here’s my monk. So handy how you can cast sneak + invis on yourself via a book instead of having to waste an item or have a white mage around.

This is not my nostalgia. FFXI is about building comradery by suffering together.
Nothing was more difficult as a WHM than trying to get to a new leveling camp with multiple people I needed to keep the spells up on. No other MMO has inspired the shear terror of frantically trying to find s safe spot to refresh as the timers ticked down.
That’s funny because my experience is that most people who don’t grow up with sneak/invisi get a preternatural skill for avoiding aggro
I was 18 and a WHM main, avoiding aggro was not my strong suit as I leveled.
See I don’t have nostalgia over XI like most people do, the only other time I ever played it was around 08-09ish on a free trial and I didn’t like it. So the experience for me is almost fresh today.
Is FFXI easy to get into these days (as someone who has played nearly every FF game including plenty of XIV)? I’m very curious about it, but MMOs have never been my kinda thing
Very easy! On both catseyexi and retail they have npc trusts that you can solo with and the experience rates are higher so it’s cut down on the grind. I managed to get to level 20 in just a day or two.
Sweet! Great to hear that some of the tedium and grind has been cut down without sacrificing the game quality. I always love the idea of super complex old-school MMOs and RPGs, but none of them actually capture me when I actually pick them up and play them. FFXI always looked like it could fix that problem for me simply because I love me some Final Fantasy lol
I don’t know what it’s like today, but the game is extremely punishing compared to modern games. More akin to a Soul’s game with lost experience for each death.
