Imaging thinking that fining people who’ve got absolutely zero money in the first place is going to solve the issue
Morons
This is designed to appeal to their core vote base, who are largely morons, and isn’t intended to fix anything. With the local elections coming up, expect to see lots more moronic policies as they attempt to get the morons out to vote for them.
Exactly. They’ll tell their base that this is for the greater good.
The greater good.
Well they could just go to their daddies second home, no ones using it in the spring ya?
Hang on, if they continue to privatise prisons so that the incarcerated are forever in debt for their keep and also provide a cheap labour force for more private companies then surely it’s a win-win for this government.
They maybe a ruthless, incompetent bunch of bastards but they won’t miss a business opportunity!
Time to get rid.
“Sir, the people are so poor after all your cuts that they have to sleep on the streets, some of them have frozen to death, what should we do?”
“Take their money!”
“But sir, if they had money then they’d not be dead”
“TAKE THEIR MONEY!”
Rock bottom is apparently not deep enough for these fucks.
Another reason to say…….
FUCK THE TORIES, YOU ABSOLUTE SCUM
As someone who has been homeless for nearly the past year, with all the trauma associated… Fuck this guy. Fuck the tories, criminal scum. If there is a God I hope they get a fast-track ticket to hell.
I fuckin hate rich people
I thought Cruella Braverman was no longer in the cabinet.
Seriously, these Tories seem to think that leadership is about being cruel and heartless bullies.
Long over due to get rid.
What about fining the person who is squatting in Number 10?
You have failed at capitalism, STRAIGHT TO JAIL!! /s
The Tories are cartoonishly evil. How much of a cunt do you have to be to criminalise rough sleeping?
Their policies create destitution, and then they punish the destitute.
What does rough sleeping mean? Homelessness?
It’s basically to differentiate ‘homeless’ as in all the people without a home, including those in hostels, sofa surfing, staying with friends, etc from the sleep outside kinda people. Rough sleepers are the latter.
Instead of Elon’s jet tracker, can we make a website that tells people which of a given MPs properties they are not staying in on a given night?
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Rishi Sunak is facing a Tory revolt over plans to criminalise homelessness in a key crime bill this year.
The prime minister risks a backbench rebellion when MPs vote on the Criminal Justice Bill, which would give police the power to fine or move “nuisance” rough sleepers.
Asked by Times Radio whether he would back the bill as it stands, business minister Kevin Hollinrake said: “Those things are not within my auspices.
The plans as they stand would grant police and local authority workers new powers to order beggars to move on while encouraging them to make use of accommodation services and mental health support.
“Everyone at risk of sleeping rough should have a right to suitable emergency accommodation, and to end homelessness for good it must invest in genuinely affordable social homes – we need 90,000 a year.”
“These provisions provide a civil route to engage with rough sleepers to help them to take up offers of support and only criminalise any non-compliance with a lawfully made direction, notice or order.”
The original article contains 761 words, the summary contains 172 words. Saved 77%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
These being tories, are we sure the rebels don’t think the policy should be MORE moronically evil?
I don’t think this is about trying to get money out of the homeless, I think it’s the adjacent power to move them on. In other words, homeless people living in urban centres can be bused out to brownbelt or industrial estates so they don’t clutter up ‘nice’ town centres with their unpleasant presence. This is why it will appeal to their voter base. They won’t have to see rough sleepers anymore. There will be no more homeless people camped outside Waitrose.
I sometimes twist my ankle at night.
