Probably to prevent cherry picking since what they actually want to do is isolate their audience for profit, and so a rewrite in a new language means their implementation of the api will inevitably drift and become incompatible.

Then, as the biggest instance they will seek to push other sites to conform to their API and standards instead of lemmy, meaning they will take control of the lemmy pocket of the fediverse.

Anyone who stays on .world is a shitlib who wants a new facebook.

Worse (or at least more pathetic), according to the comments from a mod in the thread it’s because they don’t know rust and don’t want to learn it.

Edit: looked again and realised it wasn’t the mod saying it, it was one of the sublinks Devs themselves.

They have also committed to federating with threads on their mastodon and lemmy instances. I’ve heard rumors that Ruud was involved in talks with meta before they unveiled threads when they reached out to the largest mastodon instance admins.

Because apparently libs are too stupid to use anything other than enterprise corporate slime. This and the use of microsoft forms really gives off “elon musk insisting they use windows for the paypal servers” energy.
