Everyone should try disabling ALL notifications and then working their way up to understand which alerts are worth getting interrupted for. Everything you do on your phone ends up becoming more intentional and your battery life goes up too because your screen isn’t constantly getting turned on from the barrage of notifications. To date, I only have 1 notification turned on and it’s when my significant other messages me.

My phone has been on DnD for over a year now. I have a (cheap) smart watch which vibrates on certain alerts like message, calendar, and phone and I can quickly glance and see that it’s something I don’t care about. I also ignore the calls from numbers not in my contacts if I notice them. In the time I’ve been doing this I don’t think a single person has left a message on my voicemail - validating my actions.

It’s so nice to feel like tech isn’t running your life anymore. If I’m in an app doing something, it’s because I made the choice to do it. I still gotta work on that doom scrolling tho, YouTube being the biggest culprit. I think I might try setting some time limits.

This is one of many reasons why I root my phone and make sure that Do Not Disturb mode actually does what it says on the tin.

That said, I still keep my old 1st Gen iPhone around because it’s now just a more expensive iPod Touch and works great for playing music.

I just bought a audio player, mostly because I don’t have good internet at my house and files was taking up a lot of space. Plus it has Bluetooth transmit and receive.

The fact that you have to set iPhones to only vibrate and Androids to “do not disturb” to achieve uninterrupted audio playback, is why aliens make a detour around earth.

Just don’t let any of your apps have permission to send you notifications. I don’t let messages notify me. I check when I check. The only app that has permission to notify me of anything is the phone app because I’m too scared there’ll be an emergency.

that’s a mini, they use tiny microdrives inside, they’re tiny HDDs in the form factor of a compactflash card, you can very easily replace them with a compactflash to SD adapter and put a shit ton of storage in them

Loved my Zen Micro so much. Was a sad day when it finally died, but then I got a Zune, which was incredibly excellent.

I remember downloading this song (it was a bonus track on certain versions of the album) and it was called “Expert Knowledge” and I always thought that was a better title.
