Good morning. ☁️⛅🌤️

Do you remember staying up at night watching TV until it went off the air? We can’t do that anymore, that was a 20th century thing. TV is a digital 24/7 event now. One big change I’ve noticed while driving cross country is the TV antennas are gone, there used to be one on almost every home … now gone. On the rare occasion that I do see a TV antenna now-a-days, I think: “wow, would you look at that.” Back then we generally only received two or three VHF channels of programming, ABC, CBS, and NBC. With the right equipment though, we could squeeze in a snowy UHF channel or two. Going outside to turn the antenna to improve the picture quality was a thing.

@[email protected] Good morning! ☀️ It’s fascinating how much technology has changed over the years. I remember those days too—turning the antenna for a better signal was quite the adventure! 📺😊
It is fascinating. I never thought that one day I’d be carrying a device in my back pocket that exceeds the capabilities of athe fictional Star Trek communicator.
@[email protected] We call them closedowns across the pond. A typical closedown would involve a few news headlines and maybe a weather forecast depending on the channel, then the announcer would sign off, bid viewers good night, and, depending on the channel, play the national anthem. our closedowns never really died off completely after we went digital, but they were mainly limited to children’s channels like CBeebies, CBBC and CITV.
Interesting. Here, back in the day, the programming ended with a test pattern and the playing the national anthem.

A lot of local channels in predominately rural areas still sign off at midnight! They play the national anthem and go to test patterns! Saw that when I was visiting Kansas a few yrs ago!@[email protected] Hmmm … I haven’t seen that in decades.

LOL! THAT’s exactly what I said when it came on!
@[email protected] Yes I do! 😊
@[email protected] and you had to get up off the couch to change the channel.
Yep

I used to watch the test pattern early on Saturday mornings while waiting for the cartoons to start.Oh yea, I’d forgotten that part.
