Did you feel it? I felt it, and I typically fail to notice them.
Felt it in Hayward. Mild shaking, but it lasted longer than most quakes. The cat was spooked.
TBH, I’m a little pissed that the MyShake app didn’t give a heads up or have info on this earthquake immediately afterwards. I had to google it to find the USGS entry. Considering the app warned us about a distant quake last week that turned out to be nothing, and also send out the annual test alert early at like 3:30am, the signal to noise for these alerts is currently pretty terrible.
Also can I say thank you for making this post! One of the (very) few things I miss about the /r/bayarea subreddit was the slew of posts asking if anyone felt an earthquake. More often than not, I could confirm that the mild shaking was an earthquake much faster this way than by waiting for the USGS earthquake database or a government alert.
I have MyShake but I also have an app simply called “Earthquake” that pops up pretty fast with what the magnitude is. It doesn’t give any pre-alerts or anything, but I like it anyway because it showed up within 30 seconds of the quake (I’m in Sunnyvale for reference) and when I tapped on the notification, it told me it was a 4.0 based in Millbrae and provided a map.
About five seconds after it stopped, my dog started barking. A bit late, sweetie! My 9 year old near me on the couch felt it, but my 7 year old in her room didn’t. But it’s possible she was just oblivious.
IIRC the MyShake alerts will only pop up for a 4.5 or higher.
Thanks for commenting on the post! I also miss having a regional community to chat with about local news, weather, and other things.
same! there’s been a much faster response on lemmy and reddit than the USGS site.

currently USGS says it was in Millbrae and a 3.9.
Barely felt it in SF.
In Millbrae, lying on my sofa. Didn’t feel a thing. Worries me that my internal earthquake sensor doesn’t really work very well.
East Bay also. Not too strong, but IMO went on a bit longer than average.
Felt it in downtown Oakland.
East bay here, felt it. Felt like apt building was rolling, shifting. Then followed by a rumbling shaking that lasted less than a minute.
I didn’t notice it in East Bay but I was also assembling furniture at the same time
Felt a strong shake in Lower Haight SF
