I used to do emulation on my Raspberry Pi. It had an analog AV output, so I connected it to an old tube TV I had. The games managed to look better on that than on my HD monitor with HDMI. Even moreso once I figured out how to set the Pi’s video output to 240p (the resolution for most consoles at the time).
Apparently some older games took advantage of CRT screen artifacting to create effects, but they don’t translate very well to LCD or LED screens. Like the waterfalls in the 16 bit Sonic games. On a newer LCD they look like shit, but on a CRT they have a transparent look.

Every time I come across AI-generated gibberish text I wonder to myself for a second if I’m having a stroke. Years ago I read an account from a stroke survivor who talked about how the text in the book she was reading suddenly transformed into a bunch of random squiggly lines and shapes that she couldn’t decipher, followed by the usual symptoms like one-sided weakness and numbness. The place I work for still uses “fax machines” but they’re network connected and whatever you scan gets sent in the form of a .pdf file in an email attachment.

Every time a new apartment or condo development gets built here, there are people in the local community forums who rabble about “15 minute cities” and how they are trying to force us get rid of cars and control our travel.
