And of those 6, most held democratic referendums during high budget information campaigns urging everyone that it was absolutely necessary to join NATO. NATO was always about maintaining American hegemony over Europe after WW2, because the alternative was Europe going socialist… not because of “Soviet Imperialism” but because of popular support for socialism. Notice how popular support for socialism is always framed as “imperialism” emanating from the largest socialist country, but unpopular enforcement of capitalism is never framed as “imperialism” emanating from the largest capitalist country.
