How are there no good mobile games anymore. The platform should be full of them and yet there’s nothing.
What am I missing. What gems are sitting in my blind spot. Yes I’m a gamer unlimited genocide on me but first help me find a treat. I deserve little a mobile game, as a treat.
Have you considered a GBA emulator? Hard to recommend anything without any details on what you like. I also like Card Thief and Mini Metro, so you could try those ig.
I’m not big on emulated games on my phone, mostly because I want stuff I can just pick up and put down and emulated games don’t do that too well on phone usually. Definitely have a preference for games that are meant to be played on a tiny screen with touch controls. I’ll check the other two out though thank you
Came here to say these
Any recommended GBA emulators for Android these days?
All the other games that the Card Thief guy made are also pretty great.
I’ve been using PizzaBoy for a while and really like it, haven’t had any issues. It lets you adjust the UI and display to your liking, too.
10000000 (Paid, iOS/Android): Roguelite Match-3 dungeon crawler.
You Must Build a Boat (Paid, iOS/Android): Sequel to the above with additional mechanics, more developed campaign, NG+, and daily challenges.
Luck Be a Landlord (Paid, iOS/Android): Slot machine roguelike where you add symbols with each spin. No actual gambling. Slay the Spire style Ascension mode lets you defeat your landlord!
Slice and Dice (Paid w/ free trial, iOS/Android): Dice-rolling roguelike with lots of different modes/scenarios. If you buy it on itch.io you get both mobile and desktop versions.
Dicey Dungeons (Paid, iOS/Android): Another dice-rolling roguelike, this one from Terry Cavanagh (VVVVVV). More emphasis on story, wonderful art and music.
Super Auto Pets (Free w/ paid expansions, iOS/Android): Asynchronous auto-battler with cute emoji animals. Free base pack and weekly pack, plus a few paid expansions packs.
Simon Tatham’s Puzzles (Free, iOS/Android): FOSS collection of ~40 puzzle games.
Forkyz (Free, Android): Crossword puzzle app. Can download from a variety of free sources, even a few in French and German! Grab it off F-Droid.
Luck Be a Landlord
This is a fabulous game and I highly recommend it. My landlord was eaten by شَيْء خُلُود. That alone was worth the price of admission.
oooh Dicey Dungeons is on Android hell yeah
Downwell is a simple but fun little rogue like. Mini metro is another good one
Isn’t Mini Motorways also on mobile? Same concept as Metro, but with roads and such instead of rail. Requires a bit of change in thinking, but scratches the same itch for me.
Yeah but !fuckcars@lemmygrad.ml.
Vampire Survivors
I’ve played the snot outta this on PC already. Is it good on mobile?
Yes, I personally prefer the joystick to arrow keys
If you have Netflix you can get Into the Breach and Dead Cells.
Super Hexagon!
I’ve been sort of enjoying Hexicon, a hexagonal word search game. It’s fun, my only gripe is that I don’t have enough people to play with.
Also gotta recommend Smash Hit, it’s a couple bucks to unlock the “pro” features and it’s the only game that’s survived multiple phone switches. I’ve been playing this game for a decade and it’s still fun to play for a bit every few weeks when I’m stuck waiting somewhere for a bit without a book handy.
If you like shoot-em-up stuff, world of tanks blitz and tank company are pretty fun. WOT Blitz has an extremely dumb toxic player base, tank company’s player base isn’t toxic but is definitely smaller (lots more bots filling out teams).
Kairosoft games are generally pretty fun if you want basic little management games for your phone. I have the Ninja Village and the Racing Manager one and they’re both cool.
I mostly read manga on my phone these days though.
Unless you have something against anime content I think all Hoyo games are pretty much the best of what you can call AAA mobile games. Of course I wouldn’t recommend it without a disclaimer that you should know the danger of gacha gambling, but otherwise their games all fill different niches;
HSR is turn based combat, less open world but 2.0 update will add a pretty big new region. There is some rogue like modes that offer some challenge and short term replayability and the tendency is they’ll keep adding more stuff to do.
Genshin is the AAA open world anime MMO only its not actualy an MMO it is extremely casual almost to its detriment. But the world is stunning imo and the Main story/Archon quests are pretty much 1-2 anime seasons worth of story each version and pretty good the past 3.x and 4.x versions.
ZZZ is looking like a persona vibe rogue like with action RPG combat it is not out yet but it should be one of the next “big” thing, the reception in China was very good last beta.
They’re all live service games which reward long term commitment which is good and bad, it means you can get some stuff over time being F2P but also it is predatory towards people that want short term rewards and progression.
They’re also all casual, you can play as much as you want or 5-10 minutes a day at most. I’d recommend GI the most because just going F2p and exploring the world and the story is a fenomenal experience, I believe even if you did 3-6h a day it would take like 2-3 months to go through the entire world, all the quests etc. It is also very cool to see how they progressed from 1.0 world building to 3.x and 4.x, the early regions don’t do justice these days.
It is not like it is meaningless Bethesda fluff either, like we saw with Starfield a huge world completely empty and pointless, there is a lot of lore and world building you can even go to YT to keep track.
If you want to talk about reputation and community, porn stuff, yes it all exists but the games themselves are pretty mild IMO. If you ignore the EN communities on reddit like you should by default.
Gacha addict spotted rip
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
I thought about trying the RPG one, but I’m under the impression that it needs a super phone to run. Is that right?
To be quite honest i play on PC client, they’re all actually PC games in disguise imo.
But the main issue with HYV games tends to be massive storage requirement not performance, people uninstall Genshin from their iPhones because its too big and it is the worst in that area.
That’s what I feared lol
Old-school RuneScape and Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, for different reasons. OSRS is kinda an idle game, and swgoh is a gacha hero collector
I play Fire Emblem Heroes and Arknights.
Fire Emblem Heroes is Fire Emblem on your phone! It’s been going on for a long time and we also have an anniversary coming up so we should be getting some free stuff. Most heroes have made it into the game by now. As a free to play player, you should be able to save and get 2 top tier characters a month. PvP stuff is well into whale territory so I should warn against going for top ranks there, but it’s still worthwhile to do for the weekly rewards. PvE is pretty easy to do and is your other main way to get currency besides daily log ins. If you like Marth, Roy, Ike, Lucina, or the Three Houses lords then it’s a fun game to collect them and power them up to the max.
Arknights is a tower defense game. You have operators that act like your towers. There’s a bunch of different classes of operators that can help you in different situations. Also the operators are all anime cat girls or cat boys lol. Story is pretty good, albeit very slow and kinda depressing. It’s a visual novel. Gameplay is pretty fun. Some of the starter/lower ranked operators are pretty good to use late game. The global server anniversary is going on right now and you can get some free rolls and is a good time to jump in.
Tiny wings if it still exists
Just busted out my 2014 iPad on IOS10 and what a fucking ethereal game
Limbo
Grab an emulator and play Nintendo games
