I could joke out of this, but why the hell. Yeah, by my best account I will still be here afterwards also. And we could use this brief moment to make what comes next better than current prognosis of “nothing good, lad”

Shanmugha@lemmy.worldto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that "AI" in itself is highly unspecific term221·3 days agoSo… not intelligent. In the sense that when someone without enough knowledge of computers and/or LLMs hears “LLM is intelligent” and sees “an LLM tells me X”, they will be likely to believe that X is true, and not without a reason. Exactly this is my main reason against all the use of intelligence-related terms. When spoken by knowledgeable people who do know the difference - yeah, I am all for that. But first we need to cut the crap of advertisement and hype

What have you done, a cruel person. Also, take my upvote

Or more violence directed at those who deserve it. Will make things more bearable for a brief moment
Yup. I am having hard time (decades already) facing this reality. It is ugly as hell (any hell, for that matter)
Why not get them fired? Call me cruel anyone who feels like it, but leaving no sign of what has been done is just plain shit attitude to colleagues
Shanmugha@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We need to start calling it Simulated Intelligence (SI)2·7 days agoWell, if we are not looking at all the disaster the hype is doing on so many levels (which is fine in the sense that technology and fools are different things), I draw the line at… intelligence, not simulation of hardware. I care lot less if something before me runs on carbon, metal or, say, sulfur than I care if it is intelligent
And as someone has already pointed out, even defining intelligence is damn hard, and different intelligence works differently (someone who is great at moving their body, like dancers or martial artists, is definitely more intelligent than me in quite a few areas, even if I know math or computers better than them). So… “artificial intelligence” as a bunch of algorithms (including LLM) etc - no problem with me, “artificial intelligence” as “this thing is thinking” or “this thing is just as good as a human artist/doctor/lawyer” - nah, bullshit
Shanmugha@lemmy.worldto Flippanarchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Capitalist corruption is inescapable2·7 days agoWow, do I wholeheartedly thank you for this. Yes, we need something better, and I want to see more of “I think this will work better than what we have, because…”, and not “I think capitalism is bad”. Me personally would have started not with the system but people, buut as long as every aspect of life is going to eventually taken care of, bottom-up or top-down way of getting there does not really matter
Shanmugha@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Realizing Arch isn't for me after updating broke VLC1·7 days agoWell, Arch wiki explicitly tells you are expected to read the page before doing an update. Those distros which claim to be user-friendly as in “we treat you with kids gloves” definitely should take care of this, no questions here
Shanmugha@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Realizing Arch isn't for me after updating broke VLC7·7 days agoYup, it really is not. Those plenty of people are doing a big disservice to others with such proposing. I am sad to hear it
Shanmugha@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Realizing Arch isn't for me after updating broke VLC73·7 days agoWhere did you get the idea that Arch is a daily driver for regular user? The very distro that tells in big letters: stuff can break, you better watch out on updates? The very distro that has command-line install process with chroot-like commands as official one?
This can’t be stressed enough
Now that is worth being scared of. Thank you
Then pull back with Scorpion line: Get over here!
