some highlights (you've been warned)

I don’t begrudge the people who don’t want to vote for him. For those who see their vote as support and complicity, I understand the reluctance. If Biden suddenly said fuck gay and trans people tomorrow, I would not be a happy camper. I would not be happy voting for a politician who hates gay people and deny them their rights.

But I would still do it. And I hope everyone who doesn’t want to vote for him still comes around in November to reluctantly do so.

I honestly don’t even know what to say about this one… liberalism means voting against gay marriage for the sake of preserving the liberal democracy that… ends gay marriage…

Maybe I’m just getting old, but I have no problem seeing the vast difference between the two choices we’re going to be given in November.

No matter how much the children in the room piss and moan, there are realistically only two choices - 3rd party candidates only exist to spoil it for whomever they’re ideologically closer to of the two “real” candidates. Furthermore, Biden has turned out better than I expected - and I’m a Bernie Sanders kinda guy!

smuglord the grownups in the room have to make the hard choices and get shit done

Absolutely [I would vote for Joe Brandon]. There’s no other reasonable option. There are other options. None of them are reasonable.

commiting genocide makes you a reasonable option

And let’s not forget the right-wing trolls that shill the propaganda that feed the leftists rhetoric.

the anti-facists are the real nazis

Man I just want to vote for a better candidate not strategically vote so the worst one doesn’t get elected. Why tf isn’t Trump in jail yet

a lib gets so close to understanding

Sometimes life is about making the least worse decision rather than the best one.

and liberals can’t help themselves maybe-later-kiddo

I vote for Pedro

this lib teleported in from 2004. one of the more reasonable comments too

Imagine how cool it would be if the choice was not between Donald Trump and Joe Biden but instead between Gavin Newsom and Nikki Haley.

i can’t do this anymore even the libs downvoted this one I’ll let you enjoy the rest… if you dare

there are some legitimately decent comments in the thread, so kudos to those few.

unrelatedly here’s my favorite comment… OPs response will shock you!

“Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election?” [Y/N]

none of your fucking business. and before you accuse me of fascism, remember it’s the fascists and authoritarians who demand blind loyalty and vote checks.

I can of course recognize trump is worse than biden. I can also recognize that Biden is still bad, and call that bullshit out. Perhaps Biden should maybe recognize; like any human with a fucking soul that genocide is fucking bad and maybe do what he can to stop it. So far; all we have is vague promises and platitudes while sending increasing amounts of money and arms to the genocidal dickfucks.

    congratulations, you provoked me. troll.

I dont need your hate. But Democracy needs your vote.

Torch him for Palestine all you want, AFTER Trump is in the ground and the GOP crumbles.

If you cant swallow your pride, then you deserve MAGAmerica.

Science has finally found it… absolute concentrated liberalism!!! maybe-later-kiddo vote

The worst part about all this guilt tripping is that 2/3 of the country don’t live in states where their vote even matters. When I was still on reddit-logo there was someone telling me that despite living in a Dem stronghold I had to still vote for Brandon because what if Trump rigged the election but if everyone voted hard enough it would be harder for him to throw out ballots or something.

They capitalized “democracy” lmao. You see, you must first give the demon all the power it wants, and then you can fight it.

that last line is really revealing. voting for them is not about achieving a particular political end by electing a representative who shares any of your interests. it is an act of personal moral absolution, an affirmation that one is on the Right Side of History, so even if everything gets worse forever, you can feel secure in the knowledge that it’s not your fault because you made the Right Choice.

Religious orthodoxy. Instead of the two party system being in place to prevent independent political organization, it is the independent political organizing that spoils it for the two parties God granted us. The adults in the room don’t question their circumstances, they thank the gun for being next to their head and scream at the people trying to save them for muddying the waters.

Just to address the image, the response to everything else is obvious, but the “not electing Biden guarantees Trump’s win, and he would similarly support Israel” nonsense doesn’t mean you should just ignore it and go on to other issues. Your only “real” options are both committing a genocide by proxy and you couldn’t care less; it doesn’t shake your faith in the “democracy” that only Trump could dismantle. Why is this? (rhetorical)

      CW: doomerism

Call me doomer but I can’t be excited for any outcome for any reason. Sure I get to see shitlibs removed and moan but honestly that’s not even fun it’s like twisting a knife. I can barely talk because I was a liberal less than a year ago but fuck, the lack of awareness astounds me, the inability to even consider an alternative is just exhausting to watch.

As a lifelong Socialist I’m more forgiving. I know what it takes for people to see the truth, and these people are already trying to resolve enormous cognitive dissonance. Many will snap eventually.

I keep pointing out that overall we’re in a good place for the left. The systems of power are under increasing collapse and each crisis drives them further into patholgy while driving people to us. A 1917 moment might not be near, but things are increasingly feeling 1905.

It’s amazing because when I ask them what they’re going to do if Trump wins, it’s almost always

He won’t because America knows better

      Or

He won’t because he’s going to jail

They literally cannot fathom a world where they have the power to rise up and take an actual stand

It would be sad if they didn’t also cut anyone down who doesn’t show their love for the “democratic process”

My wife had a great observation, that the best outcome would be Trump winning but the Dems hold a decisive majority in the house and senate. Nothing significant can get passed, anything done by executive order can be undone by executive order under a future president, the dem establishment gets completely undermined, and once Trump is done with his second term it neutralizes a lot of the MAGA movement. They no longer have the possibility of another term to animate them and Trump wannabes don’t have the same je ne sai quoi.

The worst part would be that the Dems cave and compromise on something because they think voters judge them on # of bills passed per session. But given the branding they’ve ridden on the last 8 years of “we must thwart the Trump agenda at all costs,” they won’t do too much of it.

Not that it’s very likely to be undone, as Biden has in fact renewed many of Trump’s executive orders, e.g. on immigration and the environment.

Biden also fucked the dog on the jcpoa, the one good thing that Obama did. If Biden had just restarted that in 2021 instead of assuaging the Israelis, there might be something closer to rapproachment between the US and Iran now, in which case maybe Israel would not feel they had a blank cheque to just genocide Palestinians.

Bad, bad take. It’s fine to recognize that (in the growing absence of meaningful differences between Democrats and Republicans) voters are mostly motivated by stuff like spite and trying to own people they argue with, but succumbing to that mentality ourselves is trying to fight fire with fire, and we know what the leftist take on that is fred-hampton

I think it’s fine to hope Democrats lose, but in a “they need to fundamentally change or get out of the way” sense, not a “own the libs” sense.

“Will you vote for Biden in the 2024 election?”

    Yes

I look at these people and can’t quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention? To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.

    David Sedaris

“I’ll have the chicken” you say, nauseated at the choice being offered, but hungry anyway. “Excellent choice!” says the flight attendant. She pulls a plastic tray from her cart and hands it to you, along with a little sticker. In the tray is something that is brown and wet and reeks strongly.

“Hold on, I asked for the chicken, not the shit!”

The flight attendant is confused “It’s chickenshit. And it doesn’t have any broken glass in it. Would you rather have the shit with the broken glass?”

“Please take this back, I just won’t eat anything if you don’t have any food. I can’t believe you’d serve this to people.”

“You have to choose something. If you don’t the plane will crash, and it will be your fault. Do you want the plane to crash?”

Holy shit you literally have to pledge fealty to the democratic party to have the right to speak over there.

For all that Biden has done and is doing wrong, he has still done more good for people here at home. People here choosing not to vote for Biden simply because of his support for Israel would damn this entire country, their country, to help people who don’t even know them terrify me

At least this liberal is honest about their us-foreign-policy views. They admit they are terrified by people who are able to sympathize with and choose to support brown people suffering genocide.

What do the libs think is going to happen in the US? How do they think the US will be “damned” to? The same admin the US had for 4 years, 4 years ago?

These libs think avoiding having a rude pesident is worth supporting genocide
