My dad started using FB in the last 6 months and my sister was telling me the other day that he’s now ranting about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce being huge Brandon supporters and that they recruited 40,000 voters for him. He doesn’t really talk politics with me because I usually back him into an ideological corner until he tips over the metaphorical game board and starts talking about needing to appreciate that at least we’re not the ones being carpet bombed and look how nice the weather is today. Granted this could all be coming from Fox news too.
I feel like these older generations that didn’t have the internet when they were younger have absolutely no idea when to turn this shit off and do literally anything else.
My dad has always consumed shitty stuff like Fox, conservative talk radio, or Drudge Report, but when 2020 hit he had literally nothing to do but be on the internet and it totally broke him.
My father is currently Gaylor-pilled. He doesn’t have a problem with it if it is true, he’s just pretty much of the opinion that any widely covered celebrity athlete relationship is probably a beard for one or both parties.

I have done no research at all but that timeline also coincides with a lot of other things, notably rapid expansion of suburban sprawl and absolutely massive increases in incarceration rate. Prison populations doubled in the 1980s, then doubled again in the 90s.
I think the age of the population has a lot to do with it as well if we’re measuring per 100,000 people. The median age in America right now is 38, but in 1970 it was 28. Older people commit fewer violent crimes I guess. I’ve also heard there have been some studies on how the Roe v Wade ruling lowered violent crime rates, even when controlling for leaded gasoline exposure, but I’ve also heard that’s possibly a bullshit hypothesis and I’m a dumbass so I have no idea.

I was about to say hey my mom was a boomer and she was awesome, but she died earlier than she should have because of poor access to healthcare. She had state provided insurance, but where she was there were few specialists for her condition and the insurance wouldn’t cover the only type of insulin she could take.
