Damn these executives really think Margot Robbie and famous IP were the sole reason the film did so well. I’m jealous that they make as much as they do to sit on their ass and say stupid shit all day.

They’re counting on the fact that it doesn’t matter if the film is bad because her recognisability will sell anything remotely similar after Barbie.

You (foolish): oh nooooooooooo, this sucks. I hate Monopoly and this is gonna suck nerd

Monopoly movie opening scene: Since the beginning of society, since the first little laborers ever existed, there have been class struggles. But the class struggles were always and forever primitive communism. The laborers who engaged in struggle could only ever demand concessions from capitalists. Which can be progress, at least for a while anyway… (ask the 8 hour work day). Monopolies continued until… xigma-male

I hope it’s just a 9.5 hr movie of a group of friends playing Monopoly in real-time. And the entire story is the groups’ past trauma told through everyone raging at each other as they’re forced to play this awful game.

It was originally called the Landlord Game and was created by a woman who wanted to demonstrate the evils of hoarding land. It was later bought and sold without that message. I wish I could wonder how much of the original messaging will show up.

It’s just annoying given the way reactionary nerds moan about historical accuracy except in cases like this where they’ll put out video essays about wokeness in this movie because the cast isn’t all straight white people.

Additionally, there were two ways to play, and the point was to notice how slow infrastructure development was when you played the ‘capitalist’ way, which is the way that the game was marketed. The frustration and 9.5 hour runtime is literally intentional.

The game spread through Quaker neighborhoods which developed it. Who wants to bet that the most they will get mentioned is an “easter egg” of a sterotypical quaker like the quaker oats mascot?

  • I can’t wait to read the novelization for the movie adaptation to Go Fish! starring Jim “from The Office” Kasinski, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Emily “I let Jim from The Office bust in me” Blunt.

I heard the 4 page treatment was greenlit for a $250 million budget with James Cameron attached to direct.

At least Barbie made sense and had some good feminist messaging. This is what it looks like when people who make stuff don’t pay attention to what people like about what was made.

“Hey! People like movies about toys! Let’s make more!”

My age cohort has never not been about revisiting our childhoods. Hipster restaurants serving tv dinners on tv trays, 80s nights and covers, reboots of all the shows except Alf, we eat that shit up. I think you massively inflate the influence of the plot of Barbie on its success – so many people were guaranteed fans from the title alone, even more from title + casting. The toy thing is a gold mine. They will use it to print money for at least a decade. Sorry! will come out in July 2027.

Sorry guys, I willed this one into existence. I was talking about the potential a Monopoly movie could have just the other day. I even compared it to the Sims movie.
